چکیده
The treatment of bilateral inguinal hernias using totally extraperitoneal laparoscopy is usually done with general anaesthesia. The objective of this article is to evaluate the regional anaesthesia technique in extraperitoneal laparoscopic surgery for treating bilateral inguinal hernias in an outpatient surgery unit. Prospective clinical study of 30 patients with uncomplicated bilateral inguinal hernia undergoing surgery using extraperitoneal laparoscopy. The anaesthesic technique used were spinal regional anaesthesia. We analysed clinical data (age, sex, associated diseases, prior abdominal surgery, site and hernia type), intra-operative complications (bleeding, peritoneal rupture, subcutaneous emphysema, reconversion rate, haemodynamic stability, respiratory problems and degree of satisfaction), postoperative complications (haematomas, urinary retention, post lumbar puncture headaches, nausea, vomiting and postoperative pain) and recurrence rate. All the patients undergoing surgery under-spinal anaesthesia in any case was necessary to reconvert it to general anaesthesia. In conclusion, regional anaesthesia is safe and efficient in an outpatient surgery unit in the treatment of bilateral inguinal hernias. # 2003 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Intraoperative Images of the Totally Extraperitoneal Repair of Concurrent Spigelian and Groin Hernias
Minimally invasive surgical technology is changing the management of spigelian hernias. In addition to open repairs, laparoscopic transabdominal repairs as well as laparoscopic totally extraperitoneal repairs are well documented. However, because spigelian hernias are uncommon, few surgeons have a large volume of experience with spigelian hernia repairs. This is particularly true of the repair ...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Mesh fixation during laparoscopic totally extraperitoneal repair is thought to be necessary to prevent recurrence. However, mesh fixation may increase postoperative chronic pain. This study aimed to describe the experience of a single surgeon at our institution performing this operation. METHODS We performed a retrospective review of the medical records of all patien...

INTRODUCTION With the establishment of a hernia specialist service at our medical centre in 1999, laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair was offered to all patients who presented with inguinal hernias. This is a report of our early experience of 100 consecutive laparoscopic totally extraperitoneal inguinal hernioplasties. MATERIALS AND METHODS Between June 1999 and January 2000, a total of 82 pa...
متن کاملTotally extraperitoneal repair of inguinal hernia: A case for bilateral repair
Inguinal hernia surgery has been one of the most extensively debated and continues to evolve in search for the ideal technique. Even though the method to diagnose hernia has largely remained clinical, recently other modalities have detected hernias that are not picked up on clinical examination or are incorrectly labeled. Laparoscopy, for the first time has given surgeons the unique opportunity...
متن کاملLaparoscopic Totally Extraperitoneal Inguinal Hernia Repair: Nonfixation of Three-Dimensional Mesh
Background: Laparoscopic totally extraperitoneal (TEP) repair is preferred over transabdominal preperitoneal hernia repair (TAPP) as the peritoneum is not violated and there are fewer intra-abdominal complications. This is undoubtedly the most elegant technique, but more difficult to perform. The purposes of this study were to describe and discuss our techniques and the modifications of using 3...
